Fibroblasts (human and non-human primates)
PRIMACYT offers skin cells from human and non-human primates. Dermal fibroblasts are obtained from human and Cynomolgus monkey ex vivo skin explants. These ex vivo skin explants and their cellular products serve as valuable model systems and tools for drug discovery and cosmetic development.
PRIMACYT is one of the pioneers in the development of advanced in vitro model systems. We are a leading company in the field of research of human and animal hepatocytes.
In 2008, we have received the Research Prize of the German Ministry of Nutrition, Agriculture and Consumer Protection for the “Development and validation of a serum-free, standardized and re-usable human hepatocyte culture system for the analysis of food, drugs and chemicals”.
PRIMACYT is approved by the European Commission as an EU Reference Laboratory for Alternatives to Animal Testing (EURL ECVAM) since 2013 and serves as a member of the laboratory network responsible for the method validation.
Our colleagues are professionals and undergo continuous training in the preparation, isolation, and cryopreservation of hepatocytes in general, including related co-products, methods, and tools. We are a GLP certified laboratory since 2006.
Dermal Fibroblasts – Cultured Human and Non-Human Primate Fibroblasts from PRIMACYT.
What are fibroblasts? Dermal fibroblasts are derived from mesenchymal stem cells. The function of fibroblasts is related to maintenance and tissue metabolism. Such fibroblasts are in activated state of metabolism. Fibroblasts provide the structural fibers and ground substance of connective tissue.
Compared to other fibroblast cell types, dermal fibroblast cells show only weak affinity to change into other cell types. Fibroblast proliferation can be stimulated by the presence of fibroblast growth factor (FGF).
Human Dermal Fibroblasts utilize their organelles to join separate cell layers. One of the fibroblast functions is the provision of the human protein molecules, including fibronectin and laminin, for the creation of the extracellular matrix (ECM).
Fibroblasts from Cynomolgus Monkey (alt. “Cynomolgus Macaque”) are fibroblasts for research purposes from primates because their dermal cells are very close to human fibroblasts.
PRIMACYT offers normal human dermal fibroblasts obtained from human ex vivo skin explants. Normal dermal fibroblasts are isolated from the human dermis of juvenile/ infantile foreskin or human adult skin from different locations like face, breasts or abdomen.
Normal Cynomolgus dermal fibroblasts are isolated from face skin of adult animals.
Fibroblasts are cryopreserved at passage 1 (P1). Each vial contains more than 500.000 viable cells after thawing. Cryopreserved fibroblast will be shipped on dry ice and should be stored at -80° C or below.
The cells are tested for morphology, cell viability, and adherence rate. Growth performance is tested through multiple passages up to at least 15 population doublings. Immuno-histochemical staining of the fibroblast specific antigen CD90 is performed for human fibroblasts.
PRIMACYT also provides researchers with proliferating cell cultures made from cryo-preserved cells, which have been thawed and cultured at PRIMACYT. Proliferating cultures will be shipped at ambient temperature.
Ethical Compliance:
Human tissue donations are obtained with the inform consent from donors who undergo surgery. The tissue is removed during surgical operations and would otherwise be discarded as biological waste.
