Cryopreserved Chicken Hepatocytes

Chicken hepatocyte cultures have been used to study lipid metabolism and food additives that may facilitate and improve chicken growth, animal production, and carcass traits. In recent years, chicken hepatocytes in co-cultures with non-parenchymal liver cells (Kupffer cells) also became an essential tool for investigating environmental stress factors like heat stress and mycotoxins in food and feed safety studies.

More recently, in vitro studies have demonstrated that hepatocytes, microsomes, and hepatic S9 fractions are effective and efficient tools to predict the in vivo endpoint for biotransformation and accumulation testing.

Animals like chicken have been used in vivo by researchers for decades to assess bioaccumulation, metabolism, and environmental risk of chemicals, including drugs, xenobiotics, cosmetics, fragrances, flavouring substances, herbicides and crop protection products.
