PRIMACYT at the EU-NETVAL meeting in Ispra, Italy
Marcel Reu, study director at PRIMACYT, is currently attending the EU-NETVAL (European Union Network of Laboratories for the Validation of Alternative Methods) meeting at the European Commission’s Joint Research Center in Ispra, Italy. The meeting focusses on the recent network activities; important developments in chemicals policy and regulation; initiatives advancing non-animal methods within the EU and international fora; and means to improve the transferability and accelerate the implementation of in vitro methods.
EU-NETVAL was set up by ECVAM (European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods) in response to the provision of Directive 2010/63/EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes which requests that EU Member States assist the European Commission in the validation of alternative methods. Currently there are a total of 35 members of EU-NETVAL, selected against pre-defined eligilibity criteria and endorsed by the National Contact Points. PRIMACYT was appointed as a reference laboratory by the European Union in 2013 and serves as an EU-NETVAL member since then, being one of the original 13 member laboratories.
